Comprehensive Parenting Assessments include a complete verbal interview, direct observation of parent-child interactions, and a battery of testing instruments done by experienced master's level therapists.   Referring social workers receive concrete results, outlined in a written report that delineates a) strengths, b) specific areas of concern, c) detailed recommendations, and d) a prognosis for the parent's ability to provide effective long-term parenting to his/her children.  Each assessment targets specific developmental stages.

Brief Mental Health Assessments (can include a parenting or bonding component) are designed to screen for emotional and mental disorders that would likely impede the individual’s capacity to make sound judgments, perform everyday tasks, or parent effectively.  A summary of recommended services to support the client in establishing a higher level of functioning is included. 

Bonding and Attachment Assessments provide clinical assessment of the level of bonding and attachment that currently exists between the child and his/her biological and/or foster parent(s).  Results are outlined in a clear and concise report to help the referring social worker in making decisions pertaining to placement and the child’s on-going well being.

State Certified Domestic Violence Perpetrator/Anger Management Assessment and Treatment for both men and women who have a history of aggressive and/or violent behavior;  Weekly Groups address all aspects of anger and domestic violence;  assist individuals to take responsibility for their actions, while providing them with the needed education and support to be successful.

Anger and Emotional Control for Youth (ages 12 – 15 and 16 – 19) is an eight week program to help youth learn to identify, understand and effectively manage emotions.  Topics include: Identifying triggers and patterns of emotional reaction; consciously choosing thoughts, feelings and actions; accountability, empathy and optimism; and improving parental and peer relationships.

One-day INTENSIVE Anger Management Class helps participants gain insight into the triggers for their anger and begin to develop healthier ways of expressing anger.

In-home Hands-on Parenting Skill Building provides in-home education and one-on-one support to enable parents to implement newly learned skills; therapist works with the parent and child to provide immediate assistance in addressing problematic behaviors and eliciting cooperation.

High Risk Parenting Group is a twelve week program to assist parents better understand how their current life-choices impact their ability to effectively implement parenting abilities and skills. 

Parent Child Interactive Training is an evidence-based, psycho-educational intervention aimed at improving the parent-child relationship.  Our counselors coach the parent from behind a two way window, as they interact with their child.  Instruction focuses on behavior-management techniques.  Goals of PCIT are to:  Improve the quality of the parent-child relationship;   Increase the parent’s capacity to manage children’s behavior;  Reduce children’s externalizing, disruptive behaviors and increase prosocial behaviors; and Reduce parent’s stress.

Personal Horizon’s Women’s Group is an open enrollment support group designed for women who have experienced domestic violence and others who want to improve their self-esteem, emotional stability, and relationships.

Building Healthy Dads Men's Group is an open enrollment support group to help fathers strengthen the father/child bond, become healthier role models, and increase their ability to cope with their child’s most challenging behaviors while they explore how their life-style and choices affect their children.

4 Hour Parenting Seminar--  Our Children and Divorce: Minimizing the Effects of Divorce on Children is a one time, four-hour seminar to help parents and primary caregivers understand the impact family restructuring (divorce, separation, and 3rd party custody) has on their children.  Approved by Pierce County Superior Court PCSPR 94.05.

Individual Therapy one-on-one counseling to assist individuals to take charge of their lives and feel emotionally well.

Family Preservation Services is a home-based service aimed at  building on family strengths to increase the primary caregiver's ability to provide a safe home environment.
